We’ve all heard of the Golden Rule. You know, the one that tells you to “treat others as you want to be treated.” Usually, this is used as a way to encourage good behavior and politeness, as, if you treat someone kindly, they are much more likely to do the same in return to you. But the opposite can also be implied: that if you treat someone poorly, you should expect the same.
Nowhere is this truer than in politics. Maybe it shouldn’t be, but it’s a sad fact of life that politics can get very personal and rather ugly. And so, it kind of goes without saying that if expect someone to treat you with respect and say nice, or, at the very least, not hurtful things, you have to give them the same courtesy.
Sadly, the political left hasn’t quite seemed to learn this, as they are ever giving out scorching descriptions and then getting upset when they receive the same kind of treatment.
Take now- vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris, for example.
Now, it is to be expected that there will be some tension between her and President Trump, if for no other reason than they are opponents in one of the significant elections this country has ever seen. And since Trump is about as hated as they come by the left, it has become a near-daily occurrence that shade is thrown in his direction.
But neither should it be a surprise that he would give it right back, as he is prone to doing.
And yet, the left is suddenly up in arms over his latest remarks regarding Harris, and of course, calling him racist and sexist because of it.
On Friday, while speaking in Londonderry, New Hampshire, Trump joked that America would rather see his daughter, Ivanka Trump, be the first woman president rather than Harris.
He said, “You know, I want to see the first woman president also, but I don’t want to see a woman president get into that position the way she’d do it – and she’s not competent. She’s not competent. They’re all saying, ‘We want Ivanka.’ I don’t blame you.”
Of course, the liberal backed press had a field day with this, suggesting that this is just another example that President is both sexist and racist. CNN’s Maegan Vazquez called it a “baseless attack” in a recent article and proceeded to explain how Trump has continuously made race an issue.
“The President has a history of making disparaging remarks about African Americans, including calling them ‘dumb’ or ‘stupid’ in public. He’s specifically referred to some Black journalists, including some from CNN, in that way.”
And while this is true, Vazquez fails to note that he has also said similar, if not identical, things to white influential males as well.
She also forgets to mention that the phrase “not competent,” which they seem to not like being used against their beloved Harris, was actually used by the vice-presidential candidate herself recently and about President Trump no less.
In fact, on the day before Trump spoke of Harris as such, Kamala used the exact same wording to describe our President and how he handled China in regards to the coronavirus pandemic.
On Thursday, right before President Trump gave his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, Harris remarked that he was not “tough” enough when dealing with China and should not have “caved to them when asking for records about the pandemic.
She said, “Donald Trump stood idly by and, folks, it was a deadly decision. All we needed was a competent president. One who was willing to listen, willing to lead, take responsibility, have a plan, do their job.”
Naturally, the left loved Harris even more for this comment. But when Trump says the same thing of her, we get comments like this:
“Trump says he wants a woman to be president but criticized Harris as “not competent,” a typical racist and sexist trope against Black women.” (NPR’s Domenico Montanaro)
’She’s not competent,’ President Trump says about @KamalaHarris, repeating an oft-used sexist and racist trope about women seeking positions of power.” (Hanna Trudo of the Daily Beast)
But neither can seem to explain just how this is racist or sexist except for the fact that Trump said it, because, you know, that says it all.
Apparently, the Golden Rule, just like everything else, doesn’t apply to the political left, or at least their beloved Harris.
